No Such Thing as Too Much Pie: Freudig Singers Expand Christmas Pie Offerings

Noting the packed houses and heaps of empty pie plates in recent years at their famous Christmas Pie concerts, the Freudig Singers of Western New York are now offering three performances of this traditional holiday concert, one each in northtowns, southtowns, and central city locations. If you live in the metro area, odds are now very good that brilliant and heartwarming Christmas music followed by a delectable pie reception will be – in that fine WNY tradition – no more than about twenty minutes away!
Under the direction of Roland E. Martin, with accompanist Mark DiGiampaolo, the Freudig Singers will feature mediaeval and Renaissance music on the nativity, compositions of Elgar and Sibelius in their anniversary years, as well as contemporary favorites. This season’s Christmas Pie is served:

  • Friday, November 30, 7:30 p.m., with the Mount Mercy Academy Pure Magic Show Choir, at Salem Lutheran Church, 10 McClellanCircle (at McKinley Parkway), Buffalo, with pies from Eileen’s Centerview Bakery, P&R Bakery and Saville’s Bakery;

  • Saturday, December 1, 7:30 p.m., with the Kenmore Middle School Sixth Grade Chorus, at Kenmore Presbyterian Church, 2771 Delaware Avenue, with pies donated by Sweet Beginnings Bakery in Kenmore; and

  • Sunday, December 2, 4:00 p.m., with the Orchard Park Middle School Select Chorus and Drumming Ensemble, at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 South Buffalo Road, with pies donated by Murphy’s Main Street Station in Hamburg.

Ticket prices – pie included – are $10 in advance/$12 at the door; $8 in advance/$10 at the door for students and seniors. Call 667-7088 for advance purchase and group sales.
